Ion Exchange Resin Lines

For the production of demineralised water, free from salts, directly from tap water, or recycled for industrial rinsing processes, ITALPLANT proposes a vast range of high performance Ion Exchange Resin Lines.

The demineralisation process involves passing water over columns containing cationic and then anionic resins, sequentially. This process frees water from all the ions it contains.

Cationic resins capture cations, Anionic resins capture anions and the resulting water is called deionised (or demineralised) water.

The ionic exchange process is cyclic.  The solution requiring treatment is passed several times through the resin, until the latter runs out.

Spent resins need to be regenerated with a suitable acid and alkaline solution which restores it to original operating conditions.

During the regeneration phase a solution called “eluate” is produced: it contains all pollutants captured by resins during operation. This is the final waste product, which must be stocked and then disposed of by specialised companies, or treated using a chemical/physical plant or with an evaporator.

In Resin Lines produced by ITALPLANT, all exercise phases are controlled by electronic instrumentation and automatically managed by PLC equipped with a touch screen panel.

Multi-way valves are not used to manage processing phases, only single valves with actuated command are used. A reliable and durable solution over time, highlighting the innovation and construction quality of our creations.

We build the following kinds of Ionic exchange Resin lines:

Equicurrent resin lines

They are traditional plants: water flows through filtering columns from top to bottom. The quality of waters produced is excellent, thanks to the use of high exchange capacity monosphere resins. Plants are assembled on a stainless steel frame with very orderly and functional piping.

Counter-current resin lines

These plants are technologically the most advanced and best-performing, our most successful product.

Waters pass through filtering columns from bottom to top, which ensures the flow comes into contact with the entire filtering bed, without the formation of preferential paths, thus guaranteeing maximum cyclical efficiency which is normally 20% higher compared to an equivalent equicurrent plant.

Thanks to the use of self-produced demi water, regeneration times of 80 minutes are achieved and regeneration eluate volumes are 50% lower.

Mixed bed resin lines

These are used for the production of ultra pure waters, with lower electrical conductibility compared to traditional resin lines, in the order of 0.1 microsiemens.

Normally they are installed downstream from a resin plant (equicurrent or counter-flow type) in production processes requiring very high water quality. This is why these resins are non-regenerable.

Indeed given the high duration of resins, it is actually better to periodically replenish spent resins rather than build a plant of the same type but regenerable.

We also provide mixed bed plants with regenerable resins, with fully automatic operation.

Softeners

These plants are used in all cases in which desalinated waters are not necessary and the simple removal of calcium and magnesium is enough. Through an ionic exchange process, softening systems replace calcium and magnesium salts with sodium salts, which do not cause hardness.

These plants are fully automated and programmable according to time or treated volume parameters. Time and/or volume parameters are set to determine the operation cycle using an electronic control unit with LCD panel, fitted with simple and intuitive commands.
